8oz Glass Candle Jars (300ml)

An 8oz glass candle jar is the 300ml straight-sided jar that most Western candle brands build their core collection around. It holds roughly 200–230 g of wax depending on your blend, burns for 40–55 hours with a single cotton wick, and is small enough to ship economically but large enough to carry a full label, a lid and a premium price point. If you are launching a first collection, restocking a best-seller, or building a private-label line for retail, this is almost always the size you start with.

Why 8oz is the volume most candle brands standardise on

Retail buyers, distributors and candle makers come back to the 8oz format for three commercial reasons:

It is the default size on retail shelves. Gift shops, home-fragrance stores and online marketplaces are stocked with 8oz vessels, so the format is instantly familiar to the end customer.
The cost-per-unit maths works. A 300ml jar weighs around 250 g in glass — heavy enough to feel substantial, light enough that freight per unit stays low on container loads.
It is the most flexible size to decorate. Straight walls give a full-height print area for silk printing, hot stamping or labels, and the 80–81 mm top diameter takes a wide range of lids.

DSC089 (300 ml, Ø81 × H91 mm) is our most widely used 8oz mould and is available in clear, frosted and a full range of custom colours. DSC8093 is the heavier option at 330 g of glass — it is the one to choose when the brief calls for a thick-walled, luxury feel. If you need a square silhouette, DSS8080 gives you the same 300ml fill in an 80 × 80 mm profile.

Wax fill, wick and burn-time notes

Wax fill is a function of your wax density and the headspace you leave, not of the jar volume alone. As a working rule for a 300ml 8oz jar:

Wax fill: approximately 200–230 g, leaving 10–15 mm of headspace below the rim.
Wick: a single wick suits this diameter. Our published reference point for this size class is a recommended fill of about 8 oz of wax, so wick selection should be tested with your specific wax and fragrance load — we recommend confirming burn performance on a sample before committing to a full order.
Burn time: roughly 40–55 hours with a well-matched single wick. Burn time moves with wax type, fragrance load, wick type and ambient temperature, so treat any figure as an estimate to be verified on your own fill trial.

For fragrance loads above 8%, test the candle rather than assuming a wick size — high fragrance loads change burn behaviour noticeably.

Available colours and surface finishes

8oz candle jars can be supplied in clear glass, sprayed or internally coloured glass, frosted and matte finishes, and metallic or electroplated effects. Decoration options include silk screen printing, hot stamping, UV printing, full-wrap labels and custom packaging.

Lids, caps and components for 8oz jars

Because the 8oz format has an 80–81 mm top diameter, the same lid programmes fit across most models in this size class:

Wooden lids (natural or stained) with EPE or silicone sealing pads
Metal lids — screw, press-fit or lug style, in matte, gloss or electroplated finishes
Glass lids with a ground joint or a silicone ring
Silicone or EVA sealing discs, and rigid or folding gift boxes

Lids are quoted separately from the jar so you can mix and match, and we can supply lids from stock with decoration applied to your artwork.

MOQ, samples and lead time

MOQ: 3,000 pcs per design. Ready-stock models can start from 1,000 pcs.
Samples: 3–7 days for models already in our mould library; sampling is charged and can be credited against the production order.
Lead time: 7–10 days for ready stock, 30–35 days for existing moulds with custom decoration, 45–50 days for a new custom mould (MOQ 10,000–50,000 pcs).
Terms: ex-works Shenzhen, with sea, air and express freight arranged on request. Sea freight to Europe typically runs 25–35 days.

What is the actual wax fill of an 8oz candle jar?

Expect roughly 200–230 g of wax, which equals about 7–7.5 oz by weight. The “8oz” figure describes the nominal brim-full capacity of the vessel (300 ml), not the wax it holds once you leave headspace for the wick and lid.

Can 8oz candle jars be made in custom colours?

Yes. We produce sprayed, internally coloured, frosted, matte and electroplated finishes, matched to your Pantone reference. Coloured glass normally requires the full 3,000 pcs MOQ, and we supply a physical colour sample for approval before production starts.

What lid fits an 8oz glass candle jar?
